Zeus Heaven :: Everybody loves oranges (2)
UPDATE! The previous version contained one instance where I used a hex-editor to alter the adventure so as to conceal an important element. This seems however to have caused a rare error for Geronimo so I've decided to take it out. Other changes include a somewhat unpleasant surprise as well as finishing touches to several maps, the story, the guide and the event lists. Additional but modest changes followed in a second update. /UPDATE!

The Athenians have doomed themselves.. Torrents of lava descend upon the city like avalanches while tsunamis obliterate the fleet. Some citizens seek refuge on the heights of the Acropolis, where, for a brief moment, they see Hades smirking at them..

You've guessed it: rebuilding the city will be your job. It's going to be difficult, it will take more than one lifetime, and once you've started founding colonies, different storylines will start to unfold. Which means that if you should be mad enough to try again with different colonies, it will hardly be any less challenging.

That was the point though, of many many hours of constructing and testing this adventure: building a challenging adventure with high replay value. It's been fun, but I've reached a point where I can't spot any obvious room for improvement. Though by posting it here, that will probably change quickly. Well, bring it on!

I would like to thank Senseisan, Mazeppa, JRFisher and Zapo who tested this adventure and provided tons of suggestions for improvement. Thanks as well to the HeavenGames forum and its contributors. The information stored there contributed a lot to the adventure. And finally thanks to Pecunia for providing the highly useful program ZeusMapper.

This adventure is meant for Zeus: Master of Olympus, but requires the expansion Poseidon: Master of Atlantis to be installed as well. It also requires Poseidon's patch, which can be found on this forum.

Unzip the file Everybody loves oranges.zip in your installation folder/adventures. You can find the adventure under custom adventures for Poseidon (though it is an adventure for Zeus).

This adventure can and should be completed without using cheats or the 'cliff climbers' technique. Using such shortcuts will spoil most of this adventure's challenges and may cause a crash to desktop.

The folder in the .zip file includes an adventure guide, which serves as a failsafe for this adventure: it provides tips on how to proceed in case you get stuck somewhere. As it can be rather spoilery too I recommend: do not read more than you have to. Please do check it before posting questions here though, so as to limit spoilers in the comments as much as possible!

Hey Genis!!
This is a wicked, nerve racking and sad*stically planned one!
I've never ever used so many fireballs and delian black funds.
Strangling strategy with plenty of resources at hand is the type of adventure I hate most (I haven't all the time of the world) BUT, geeweez, you've made a gorgeous job, you and that acrobatic patrol of your testers! :-)
Mother Nature has made predators not only grazers so in the name this beauty go on, carnivore.
Moreover, never seen a so complete and smooth information about an adventure.
I'll achieve more pain from now on but I ask you to go on, you're a clever, "damn good" planner.
Respectful cheers from the poor Tontos...

P.S. ...and I'm just around 20% of the story...

Cheers! Glad to hear you deem the adventure worthwhile even though it's not your type. :)
Now what did I say about cheating?! ;) Though the start is tough I grant you, it's no harder than some episodes to come. For that reason I think it's more rewarding to choose an appropriate difficulty setting. :)
Good luck and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the rest of the adventure!

Hi Geronimo, the adventure has been tested many times. It has no defects as far as I know. An adventure guide is included. Please consult it first (using Google Translate). If the problem is not resolved, please contact me via e-mail (genis.datcho@gmail.com) and explain the problem further.
translated back to english as required by the CoC.

Oh-oh.
Perhaps Geronimo is right, it happened to me on episode 3 or 4 (can't remember) after the little flood right under the fertile terraces arc sweeping the access to road.
The game shuts down and a system error warns that something had interrupted Poseidon proceeding to recover somehow, but it didn't work.
I've tested previous old adventures in case it was a local corruption but all worked just fine.
Now I will start the adventure over again WITHOUT CHEATING (I did bash too many boulders... :-D) to see if there's any difference.
I'll report soon after.
Anyway the adventure it's an awesome one. The ever changing map opens a new era in Zeus city building.
To find the hidden paths it's a game in the game...
Cheers.

Hi Tontos,
Damn! I have no idea what that's about. I've just tried reproducing the error on another system, but nothing weird happened.
I have a theory on the cause of this error that I would like to test, but I can't do it myself since the error doesn't show up for me.
You could though, but it would require you to start over in a new version again. If you're willing to do that, just send me an e-mail (genis.datcho@gmail.com) and I'll attach this version to my reply.
It would be a great help!geronimo gero

Genis

Hello Geronimo. I think you have a different problem. I may misunderstand because the translation is not great though. I certainly did "save settings" in the editor. It is not possible to open the adventure in the editor because I have not included the .set file, which is not required to play the adventure. From the last part of your message I understand that you may have gotten the message: "Open play, no episode goals", which can occur if you haven't installed the patch for Poseidon. If this is indeed the problem I recommend you install the patch (link in the bottom left corner of this site) and try again. If you have a different problem, please try to explain it in more detail, so I can gather enough information from the translation.

Additional Comments:
Genis has put together a masterful adventure for us. It's good to see a talented and creative gamer develop a new one.

It's a long and challenging adventure that is doable if one follows the hints in the well written storyline for each episode. As with all great Z&P adventures it's a good test of your strategic thinking, problem solving, ability to juggle priorities, and need to change direction as events unfold. Something for everyone.

I especially liked the large and varied maps with space to build but a tight, jagged shoreline with lots of small islands. Visually appealing using rocks, meadows, rocks, lakes, rocks, marshes and many water crossings. This adventure certainly sets the record for the most number of bridges needed!

Also many teasing resources you really want but are just out of reach. You'll need to get by until they are made available through floods and "timely" landslides. When will that be you ask? Well you'll have to play the adventure to see.

Good luck with the gods-a-plenty, monster mashes, demanding heroes, unruly allies, and ruthless rivals. Did I mention the earthquakes, lava and floods?

Finally, watch out for the ending onslaught that will try to make orange juice out of you when you should be growing oranges and drinking wine while basking in the glory of your empire.

I played at the Hero level and did not use any cheats. I'm using the GOG version that was available in March of 2014 on Windows 7. I have not experienced any crashes with this version. Savegame a lot to save the day!

A 5.0 adventure on my clay tablet.

Cheers! Thank you for that flattering review Zapo. :)
Concerning the crashes: it seems not cheating (at least in the parent city episodes;) has helped Tontos' game from not crashing. I expect some information on Geronimo's problem soon, and to be able to update the adventure shortly thereafter.
