INDIANAPOLIS METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT2+ weeks agoAgency𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 IMPD officers have arrested a 31-one-year old male for his alleged role in Sunday afternoon shooting. On Sunday May 19, 2024, IMPD Southeast District officers responded to a person shot at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Shelby Street. When officers arrived, they found two vehicles that had been involved in a crash. Inside one of those vehicles was an adult male with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive. The adult male shooter, identified as Lekedrick Hughes, remained on the scene and was detained by Southeast District officers. IMPD Aggravated Assault Detectives preliminarily believe this shooting was the result of a road rage incident. After obtaining a search warrant, detectives located a handgun and a shotgun in Hughes’ vehicle. IMPD Aggravated Assault Detectives continued the investigation, which resulted in the Hughes being arrested for Battery with a Deadly Weapon Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Everyone involved in the incident has been identified, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. An arrest is merely an accusation, and a final charging decision will be made by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Hughes should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.23Like6
